Class Notes – SDC 2013 Day 1 & 2

Day 1

Waltz

General Focuses

  1. Rise and Fall Timing (Starting to Rise end of 1, Lower end of 3)
  2. Drag to Close
  3. Push to Move

Whisk

  • Bring Free foot under body before crossing behind
  • When lowering move into the next direction (forward)

Cha Cha

Basic Action

  • Settling = Relaxation of hips to prepare to move
  • Weight Transfer = Body Weight moving from foot to foot
  • Push from standing leg when transferring weight
  • Collect Free Leg under body before checking forward or back
  • Feet always in “V” shape
  • NO HEEL LEADS!… EVER! (Toes in contact with floor at all times – with some exceptions)

Lock Step

  1. Switch Hips and Knees
  2. Foot Forward, Cross Behind, Foot Forward

Day 2

Waltz

Contra Body Movement (CBM) = Movement of one side of the Body towards the opposite moving leg

  • Used to initiate rotation
  • Body Movement/Rotation needed to create the action
  • Occurs on Step 1 and 4 of Natural/Reverse Turns

Cha Cha

Lock action

  • Footwork – Ball Flat, Toe, Ball Flat
  • Switching on Balls of Feet
  • Free Leg moves quickly forward/backward
  • Cross loosely to promote better balance

Routine

  1. Fan
  2. Hockey Stick
  3. 3 Cha Chas Back
  4. 3 Cha Chas Forward
