1 piece of advice to newcomers: If you really want to improve, practice outside of class! Ask the teachers questions or simply watch videos. Taking 5 minutes to practice outside of class consistently, will put you leaps ahead.

One piece of advice for newcomers: Don’t feel obligated to say yes when someone asks you to dance! Do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable 🙂  

Exec position: External Vice President Major/faculty: Applied Science Years in DC: 1 Why did you join DC? I talked to some of the people running the imagine day booth and it seemed really fun. I decided to go to free-week with my friend and just continued attending. Advice to new members? Try to attend at least one social. It can seem really scary if you feel like you don’t know anyone, but everyone is honestly super friendly and you will find someone to dance with and probably make some really great friends.

Introduction Hi, I’m Iveel! Having uncoordinated limbs and a mostly sedentary lifestyle, I joined the club and started ballroom dancing because of my huge admiration for the beautiful dancers on the floor swinging and twirling. Come say hi and let’s share something exciting, elegant, and fun!
One piece of advice for newcomers: Don’t be afraid to reach out to those who seem to have a lot of experience in ballroom dancing. They’re more than willing to give you tips and help you improve.

Introduction: Hi, I’m Alvin! I joined the Dance Club because I wanted to try a form of dance that didn’t require my body to be as flexible as jelly (and also, a friend told me about it :). Feel free to talk to me about dance, cooking, tennis, or anything that’s on your mind.
One piece of advice to newcomers: Don’t be afraid to try new things and talk to new people (but know your own limits)! It’s a club and a community, so try and enjoy yourself with all that the club has to offer 🙂

Introduction: My name is Angela Wang, and I am the Sponsorship Coordinator for the UBC Dance Club. I am currently planning to major in International Relations at UBC, and I’m excited to be part of the club for the upcoming year. I have over 12 years of experience in rhythmic gymnastics, which has fueled my passion for dance and movement. Now, I am excited to be transitioning into ballroom dance and looking forward to sharing this new chapter with all of you.

Introduction: Hello! I’m Alfred and I’m the club’s bookings rep. Ballroom dancing was the last hobby I was expecting to pick up going into university so I was pleasently surprised with how much I’ve been enjoying it. I’ve been dancing for a little under a year now and its only been fun! Plus its a nice break from the insanity of courses.
One piece of advice for newcomers: Come to classes and socials and make friends! Dancing is a lot more fun with people you know and having fun is the only way you’ll be motivated to improve.

One piece of advice to newcomers: Especially when it becomes intimidating to dance with people you have hardly met, it’s important to continue forwards if you find that you really enjoy dancing.

I wanted to join a dance club of some sort, and ballroom looked interesting since I had never done that style before. So I attended the jumpstart event and it was so fun I wanted to join the club! Advice to new members? Talk to as many people as possible. My first term in the club I was pretty shy, but once I started talking to people I realized how welcoming and kind everyone was, and classes became much more fun!
