Blog #11 | It’s already mid-July?

THE SUN IS GOING WHERE’D MY SUMMER GO? IT’S LIKE THE SUN IS SETTING ON MY SUMMER ALREADY! So far we’ve had the Summer Dance Classes (SDC) and the Trampoline Event which were awesome. SDC was intense for Newcomers like me, who had to learn all the new dances and technique. Some of the techniques even challenged some of our more advanced dancers. Even the Robson Square Summer Dance Series (which is still happening every Friday at 8pm with fool-proof fun dance lessons and general dancing) and the upcoming Hike on July 21st are passing by quickly and will soon be over. There are also those other things that take up your time. Things like class, beach days, commuting, dance practices, work, sports, family and friends, that can all happily fill your time. Thinking about it, my summer hasn’t vanished but has been well spent. Looking forward to the rest of it! There are definitely things that are handy to know for us dancers. And those would be the Open Dance times at the various studios in Vancouver! We’ve got Fraser, Broadway (Tue-Thur from 8:30-11:30, and Fri-Sat 8:30-12:00), Crystal (Mon-Wed and Friday from 8:30-11:30, Sat 8:00-11:30, and Sun 8:00-11:00) and the Grand Ballroom at most times while they’re open. A friendly reminder that the floor costs range anywhere from $4-7, so be prepared to pay a bit before you go and use their clean floors. (All times listed are in pm) To make full use of the rest of your summer, I’d also advise you to stay tuned to the UBCDC Facebook page, the Web-page (that you’re already on), and the Newsletter so you can stay up to date with any events that we’ll be running through the rest of the summer months. Beach it up! There’s a lot that still has to be done this summer for myself! This includes more beach days, swimming, dancing, running, and of course that summer class I decided to take. On that note, with the sunny days here and showing no sign of stopping, you might want to check out our EVP Shayna’s Blog post about getting your body ready because it’s never too late to start. On the other hand, if you don’t possess the hard sculpted body and are looking for something a little more humble, check out our Treasurer Gord’s Blog about Hiding said ‘beach’ body because nobody needs to know your body isn’t beach ready if you’re already styling it up with an awesome outfit. If the beach isn’t your kind of thing but you’re still looking to get out, there’s still time! Using the dance times from above, as well as the fact that you’ve got something to do every Friday now (that’s Robson Square if you remember from the first paragraph) you can easily have a great time by grabbing a partner and some friends for a night out dancing and having fun! If meeting new people’s your thing, you don’t even need a partner for Robson Square! Social Dancing’s one of the great parts of dancing, meeting new people and making the most you can. Looking to enjoy your dancing a bit more? Gala Chair Melvin has some tips for you. No matter what you choose to do with your time make sure you stay relaxed, open minded and keep up! If you’ve got those down, maybe start using that confidence you’ve got. Anyone remember the phrase ‘Fake it ’till you make it’? Go ask that girl/guy standing at the side to dance because the worst they can say is ‘No’ and we live in Canada, so it’ll probably be ‘No, sorry’ anyways. Faking it until I make it on the Dance Floor and out by the Beach while summer lasts, Jake Larson –SoCo
