Calvin Lee (Chairman of Judges)
Calvin Lee is a licensed chairman and adjudicator, national championship adjudicator and a certified scrutineer. He is a member and examiner of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA) and a member of the Canada Dancesport Professional Division. He is an instructor at Crystal Ballroom and holds a certification in International Style Ballroom & Latin. Calvin is a coach and instructor with a competitive career including International Standard and Latin as well as Pro-Am, and co-founded the SnowBall Classic. He was a dancer representing Newfoundland at the 2010 Olympics Medal Ceremony – and he started his dancing career at the UBC Dance Club!
Andy Mundy
Andy Mundy is a Fellow (both Ballroom & Latin) of the International Dance Teachers Association, and Licentiate member (both Ballroom & Latin) of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. He competed and taught in England and on cruise ships before emigrating to Canada in 2005 and setting up his own dance school on Vancouver Island, teaching and coaching all levels of dancers.


Andy Wong
Andy is a 14-time BC Amateur Champion and 7-time Canadian Championship adjudicator. As a LifetimeUBCDC Honorary Member, an ex-president, and Gala Ball sponsor plus adjudicator for 25 consecutive years, Andy is indelibly linked with the UBC Dance Club. He is a co-founder of The SnowBall ClassicCompetition and the Robson Square Summer Dances. Andy graduated from UBC in 1981, became a top pharmacy manager for London Drugs, and was slated for head office promotion in ‘93. Undauntedly, he gave it all up to pursue his dream of opening The Grand Ballroom – an iconic studio he and his wifeWendy operated in Richmond for 20 years until their retirement in 2013. Together, they organized 33 major international dancesport competitions at ‘The Grand’. Their system of group classes was innovative and unparalleled, serving as the foundation for over 18,000 students. Together Andy and Wendy left an unprecedented legacy in the ballroom dance community.
Elena Shvaitser
Elena is a former Latin & Ballroom dancer.
After completing her Master’s Degree in Performing Dance Arts in Ukraine, she began to devote more time to coaching and adjudicating. Elena moved to Canada in 2004 to continue teaching, coaching, and adjudicating. Elena has had her own dance studio since 2007, where she coaches couples from beginner to championship levels, with success at national and international competitions. Elena has 25 years of experience teaching, coaching, and adjudicating. Elena is a member of the Canadian Dance Sport Association (CDS) and the World DanceSport Federation, and she holds a World DancaSport Adjudication Licence “A” (WDSF). Elena is the host of the annual World Championships “DanceSport Grand Prix Canada.” Her goals are to share her passion for dance with her students and to inspire them to reach their full potential, gain confidence, and self-esteem.


Faye Hung
After winning the Bronze Medal at the World Dancesport Federation (WDSF) World Championships in 2014 and becoming a finalist at the WDSF World Showdance Championship in 2013, Faye decided to retire from her athletic career to become a full-time coach and teacher. She has competed successfully as an amateur and professional in top-level dancesport competitions. Faye and her Italian partner have made the finals in competitions held in Spain, Slovenia, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Germany, Philippines, Thailand and Taiwan. They were also the Hong Kong National Standard Champions for 10 years in both the amateur field as well as the professional division.
Faye holds a fellowship in both standard and latin with the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) and she has been a national championship adjudicator for the Hong Kong Dancesport Association since 2012. She is a resident instructor at Vancouver’s Crystal Ballroom in Richmond.
Nelson Wong
Nelson Wong is a certified Standard and Latin Adjudicator, coach and instructor, and a Championship competitor in Standard and Latin. He is the Treasurer of Canada DanceSport Professional Division and was the Recipient of the Sport BC Community Sport Hero Award for continuous volunteerism in DanceSport. He is the Co-Founder, Honorary Life Member and Former President of the Nanaimo Ballroom Dance Society, and also the Co-Founder of the Island Fantasy Ball. He has assisted with the organization of major international competitions including WDSF World and World Cup Championships, BC and Canadian Closed Championships.


William Li
William Li is a CDS Member in International style Standard and Latin. He began dancing with the UBC Dance Club in 1994, and has been competing at the Open Latin level at many competitions in Hong Kong, Taiwan, UK and Canada.
Former Canadian Closed Senior Amateur Latin Finalist. Since turning professional in 2005, William has been a resident instructor at Vancouver’s Crystal Ballroom.
Stephen Johnson (Scrutineer)
Stephen Johnson is a certified ballroom dance scrutineer. He got his start in ballroom dancing at UBC Dance Club, and has continued with lessons, competitions, and other events ever since. In fact, his very first competition was a Gala Ball. Outside of the dance world, Stephen is an acoustical engineer and a piano teacher, who enjoys several styles of partner dance. Stephen is glad to see ballroom dance events returning after the Covid years, and he is excited to be scrutineering for Gala and the UBC Dance Club. Good luck to all the competitors, and have fun!
