Calvin Lee – Head of Judges

Licensed Chairman and Adjudicator − National Championship Adjudicator – Certified Scrutineer – National Ballroom Consultant and Examiner with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA) – Member of Canada Dancesport Professional Division – Instructor at Crystal Ballroom – Certification in International Style Ballroom & Latin, Coach and Instructor – Competitive career includes International Standard and Latin as well as Pro-Am − Co-Founder of the SnowBall Classic – Representing Newfoundland as a dancer at the 2010 Olympics Medal Ceremony – Started his dancing career with the UBC Dance Club!

Faye Hung – Adjudicator

After winning the Bronze Medal at the World Dancesport Federation (WDSF) World Championships in 2014 and becoming a finalist at the WDSF World Showdance Championship in 2013, Faye decided to retire from her athletic career to become a full-time coach and teacher. She has competed successfully as an amateur and professional in top-level dancesport competitions.  Faye and her Italian partner have made the finals in competitions held in Spain, Slovenia, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Germany, Philippines, Thailand and Taiwan. They were also the Hong Kong National Standard Champions for 10 years in both the amateur field as well as the professional division.

Faye holds a fellowship in both standard and latin with the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) and she has been a national championship adjudicator for the Hong Kong Dancesport Association since 2012.  She is a resident instructor at Vancouver’s Crystal Ballroom in Richmond.

William Li – Adjudicator

CDS Member in International style Standard and Latin  

William Li began dancing with the UBC Dance Club in 1994, and has been competing at the Open Latin level at many competitions in Hong Kong, Taiwan, UK and Canada.

Former Canadian Closed Senior Amateur Latin Finalist. Since turning professional in 2005, William has been a resident instructor at Vancouver’s Crystal Ballroom.

Andy Mundy – Adjudicator

Andy is a Fellow of the International Dance Teachers’ Association. He has danced for over 35 years, and taught in the UK and on cruise ships before emigrating to Canada in 2005, where he set up his own dance school. He has published a ballroom technique book on Social Foxtrot.

Gaétan Rouette

Gaétan Rouette is a former 10 Dance Canadian International Grand Finalist. He won many championship titles in Quebec and represented Canada several times at prestigious dance competitions such as the Blackpool Dance Festival. He went in London, England to perfect his knowledge in Standard and Latin. His experience as competitor, coach and choreographer make him one of the top trainers in North America. In the past 10 years, his students have won many competitions such as The United States Dancesport Championship and The Ohio Star Ball Dancesport Championship and several Canadian Championships. Gaétan is certified Fellow Ballroom and Fellow Latin from the Canadian Dancesport Federation and is also an Examiner for Canada Dancesport. He is a national adjudicator and train amateur and professionals to pass certifications. Gaétan also earned a bachelor degree in music teaching and uses his knowledge to complement his coaching skills. His passion as a teacher is to help his students to become the best dancers they can be. Recently Gaétan relocated to Nanaimo, BC and enjoys the island lifestyle while continuing his mission to teach, coach and adjudicate.

Andy Wong – Adjudicator

Andy is a 14-time BC Amateur Champion and 7-time Canadian Championship adjudicator. As a Lifetime UBCDC Honorary Member, an ex-president, and Gala Ball sponsor plus adjudicator for 25 consecutive years, Andy is indelibly linked with the UBC Dance Club. He is a co-founder of The SnowBall Classic Competition and the Robson Square Summer Dances. Andy graduated from UBC in 1981, became a top pharmacy manager for London Drugs, and was slated for head office promotion in ‘93. Undauntedly, he gave it all up to pursue his dream of opening The Grand Ballroom – an iconic studio he and his wife Wendy operated in Richmond for 20 years until their retirement in 2013. Together, they organized 33 major international dancesport competitions at ‘The Grand’. Their system of group classes was innovative and unparalleled, serving as the foundation for over 18,000 students. Together Andy and Wendy left an unprecedented legacy in the ballroom dance community.

Nelson Wong – Adjudicator

Certified National Standard and Latin Adjudicator. Coach and Instructor. Licentiate Member and Treasurer of Canada DanceSport Professional Division. Top level professional competitor in Standard and Latin. Recipient of the Sport BC Community Sport Hero Award for continuous volunteerism in DanceSport IN BC. Co-Founder, Honorary Life Member, former President and current Director of the Nanaimo Ballroom Dance Society. Co-Founder of the Island Fantasy Ball in the revival of the BC Closed Championships. Assisted with the organization of major international and local competitions including WDSF World Championships, World Cups, SnowBall Classic and Canadian Closed Championships. Over 30 years experience in teaching and working with the dance industry.

Stephen Johnson – Scrutineer

Stephen Johnson is a certified ballroom dance scrutineer. He got his start in ballroom dancing at UBC Dance Club, and has continued with lessons, competitions, and other events ever since. In fact, his very first competition was at a UBC Gala Ball. Outside of the ballroom dance world, Stephen is an acoustical engineer and a piano teacher who

enjoys several other styles of partner dance. Stephen is glad to see ballroom dance events growing post-Covid, and he is excited to be scrutineering for Gala and the UBC Dance Club. Good luck to all the competitors, and have fun!
