Why did you join DC? I just finished 5 years of competitive dragon boating and I wanted to get more involved at UBC and make new friends. I decided to try DC since my parents used to dance with DC plus I have a background in dance! I had a lot of fun at Free Week and found the club super welcoming which is why I stayed.
Advice to new members Make sure to smile and have fun grooving with the music. Also talk to you fellow classmates, execs, or the teachers since we love meeting people!
What is your favourite dance? Tango

What are your other hobbies? Puzzle + point and click video games, peer advising, building community, paddling sports

Why did you join DC? I’ve always wanted to learn how to dance and I kept that part of me suppressed for too long. It was about time to get out of my comfort zone. Also, fake eyelashes.
Advice to new members Just enjoy the music, let go and dance. Everything else will follow!

What are your other hobbies? Making clay figurines, learning languages, collecting earrings (I can’t stop) and eating.

Why did you join DC? Always wanted to learn how to ballroom and thought it would be my old-person hobby. University ages you fast, decided might as well start now.
Advice to new members Push forward! It can be hard at times but the satisfaction you feel and fun you’ll have dancing is worth it. Even if you absolutely flop, flop with confidence. As one of my dance teachers told me, it doesn’t matter if you’re garbage, you can still be proud, shiny garbage 🙂

Advice to new members Everybody is looking at their own dancing, they won’t notice a mistake or two. In fact mistakes are the best way to learn so never be embarrassed to make them.

Why did you join DC? I used to take ballroom dancing lessons when I was littler, and more recently learned how to waltz for my high school prom. It amazed me how friendly and open everyone was when we barely knew each other, how everyone learning to dance brought people together.
Advice to new members Getting out of your head and feeling the music and flow of the dance really helps. Plus, even if you don’t think you’re dancing very well, the only thing that can happen is you get better and better. And make sure to have fun! (And don’t underestimate the power of dance shoes)

Why did you join DC? I used to do bellydance since I can remember, I wanted to try ballroom dancing because the technique and count is completely different. I found it to be great for meeting new people and enjoying music. I looked up dance teams in UBC and I had a wonderful time in the first week, so I couldn’t but join along.
Advice to new members Remember that dance is a source of joy. Embrace it and let the class fill the rest of your day with a new energy.

Advice to new members Try all of the new comer class for each teacher has very unique approach so find which is best for you!

What are your other hobbies? Cycling, hiking, photography, video games, rock climbing, swimming, scuba diving, and general advancing my first aid training (backup plan of degree doesn’t work out is to be a paramedic)

Why did you join DC? I love to dance, but had forgotten about my passion in my last years of highschool. My friend and I decided to go to a dance lesson during free week. I had so much fun that Iimmediately signed up.
Advice to new members Don’t be afraid to mess up or step on your partners toes. Just laugh (maybe apologize) and keep going!

Why did you join DC? I’ve always been fascinated by dancing and espcially ballroom dancing that I’ve seen in films and such, so when my friend Juli asked if i would be interested in attending some free classes offered at UBC I thought it could be fun! despite not actually being a UBC student at that time, I felt it was fun and welcoming enough that I was totally convinced to join
Advice to new members Don’t worry about the technical aspects too much, as actually enjoying and having fun will help your dancing feel more natural C: even if you dont know some of the dances or steps just going along with the flow can help you
